Young Jae Jang

Prof. Young Jae Jang

Professor KAIST

Young Jae Jang received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2007 and a double M.S. degree in mechanical engineering and operations research from MIT in 2001. He received a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering from Boston University in 1997.

He is currently a Professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea. He is also the Director of the SynusTech-KAIST AI AMHS Research Center. His current research includes smart factory, automated material handling systems (AMHS), and AI-based automated system.

Before he joined KAIST, he worked at Micron Technology, Inc., VA, USA, where as project manager, he led a global initiative to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing facilities located worldwide.

He has been actively working with companies including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hankook Technology Group, and Samsung Heavy Industry.

Dr. Jang is also currently an Associate Editor of Computers & Industrial Engineering, and IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering.
