Most of important technical issues for semiconductor circuit designers are power, performance, area, reliability and so on. The security of information processed in a chip, on the other hand, has not been regarded as a big deal to designers. However, it is revealed that the information security can hardly be guaranteed by software approach based on cryptography alone, but should be supported by hardware approach including circuit design. The importance of the information security cannot be overemphasized in the current hyper-connected society where more than tens of billions of devices are connected, each of which contains need-to-be-secured information. In this forum, circuit designers can learn how the information inside a chip can be taken by attackers and also the basic principle and the state-of-the-art design methodologies for secure process and storage of information in a chip.
