VP Research & Development, Cadence Design Systems

Ben Gu is Vice President, and GM of the newly formed Cadence Multi-Physics System Analysis Business Unit/ Ben oversees RnD of all the system level products in Cadence, including the recently launched Clarity 3D Solver, Celsius thermal solver as well as Sigrity, Voltus and ESD products. Additionally, he is responsible for the strategy, M&A, product marketing, and product engineering of those products.

Prior to taking this new role, Ben has been with various RnD leadership positions in Cadence since 2012, including RnD head of Voltus, Clarity, Sigrity, etc.

Ben's main contributions in Cadence include:

* Led the development of Cadence's first system analysis product, Clarity 3D solver. The revolutionary technologies inside Clarity, massive parellelization and elastic computing, provide customers unprecedented performance improvements over competition (> 10x) and virtually unlimited capacity.

* Led the development of Cadence's fully distributed power grid simulator, Voltus and Voltus-Fi, and improved the Voltus business by several times in less than 4 years.

Before joining Cadence, Ben had been with Magma Design Automation, Freescale Semiconductors, and Motorola, developing simulation related EDA products. Ben received numerous awards including the Cadence Corporate Innovation Award for his achievements. He has published numerous research papers and received the prestigious IEEE Donald Peterson Best Paper Awards in 2016, and holds 5 U.S. patents.

Ben received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong Uuniversity and M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Penn State University.
