Upendra Ummethala

Dr. Upendra Ummethala is Vice President and Head of Applied Actionable Insight Accelerator (AIx™) Products at Applied Materials, Inc. He is responsible for delivering innovative products that integrate new sensors, AI/ML analytics, and advanced control systems with Applied Materials silicon products.

Upendra has broad experience of bringing novel products to market in several capital-intensive industries.  Before joining Applied Materials, he was Vice President of engineering at Prysm, Inc., where he led the worldwide engineering team. He spent several years at KLA Tencor in various engineering and product management positions in photomask inspection and direct-write lithography. Earlier, he worked as an engineer in data storage, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and biomedical industries.

Upendra holds a Ph.D. from MIT with a specialization in control algorithms and signal processing. He has authored patents and publications and given invited talks at many universities and conferences.
