Jan Van Houdt

Jan Van Houdt received a M.Sc. degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Applied Sciences from the University of Leuven in 1994. During his PhD work, he invented the HIMOS™ Flash memory device, which he transferred to several industrial production lines. In 1999 he became responsible for Flash memory at imec and as such was the driving force behind the expansion of the imec memory research program. Today he is Program Director with a focus on ferroelectrics and other novel materials for memory applications. He has published more than 320 papers in international journals and accumulated over 260 conference contributions. He has filed close to 100 patent applications and served on the committees of 10 international semiconductor conferences. In 2014 he received the title of IEEE Fellow for his contributions to Flash memory devices. He is also Professor at the KU Leuven where he teaches the basics of integrated circuit technology and memory device physics.
