John McLaughlin
Global ESG Leader, Ann Arbor Site Lead, KLA
John McLaughlin is the Global ESG Leader and Ann Arbor site leader for KLA, a global tech company that produces advanced inspection tools, metrology systems, and computational analytics across the electronics industry. In his ESG role, John leads KLA’s Environmental, Social, and Governance program including KLA’s global reporting on climate emissions and sustainability and serves as president of the KLA Foundation. In 2018, KLA announced that Ann Arbor, Michigan will be the site of the company’s second headquarters. In his site lead role, John is responsible for KLA’s growing presence in Michigan, including the scale-up and operations of a new R&D campus in the Ann Arbor Technology Park that will be home to 600 engineers, scientists, and corporate professionals supporting our customers and operations across the globe.
Prior to KLA, John led corporate & foundation relations at the University of Michigan College of Engineering, where he managed and grew mutually beneficial partnerships between the University and some of the world’s largest companies. He also supported faculty and academic leaders across the Engineering disciplines in the development and scale-up of cross-disciplinary research centers and institutes. John’s first role at U-M was at the Business Engagement Center, where he served as an interface for industry across the institution.
John was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After completing his undergraduate studies at U-M, he lived in Boston for the early part of his career, where he started out in IT/operations management before getting his MBA at Boston College. After business school, he managed finance and operations at Elysium Digital, a consulting firm specializing in computer forensics, IP and trade secret litigation before returning to Ann Arbor in 2013 to begin his work at U-M.
